WooHoo! 1st/1st! I'm not sure what toffee apples are exactly. I love caramel apples though, so in hopes that toffee means caramel, I went with it. Not a fan of candy apples, too sticky, and never sure of the flavor. I got one once that was hot cinnamon, and had to throw it away.

No, caramel is different . . . and much better.

I have always referred to them as caramel apples and jelly apples. Perhaps it's a regional thing. Candy apple might be an older saying, like when referring to the color of a muscle car; "Candy Apple Red...". Caramel apples are better in my opinion. Jelly is just a sweet taste, where caramel can be complex in flavor. And please, notice the three syllables in Car-a-mel. I know some people say Car-mel, but I can't get used to it. Carmel is a place; caramel is a food.

Toffee Apples. I just like plain apples better though. Why mess with perfection?

@ Gia. I agree, toffee and caramel are totally different, but, I've never heard of a toffee apple. Is there really such a thing?

At the apple orchard that Rob & I grew up going to they have about a dozen ways to get yourself a 'fancy' apple.

The best thing they have now is frozen cider. It's slushy-cider goodness that's not watered down at all- delicious!

Well Mama K, Wikipedia says that there's such a thing, but Wikipedia is also . . . well, Wikipedia.

Oh Roland. Don't be silly. Everybody knows that the second a is silent.

Gia :) If I were to gush more, it would be embarrassing, so just :)

And in other news,
In my world, candy apples are red and have a thin candy coat, so that you get mostly apple with each bite. Toffee/Caramel apples have a thick coating of brown that pulls at your teeth more. Ergo, I chose candy apple.

I say Car-ah-mel. Car-mal sounds like...nothing really. It doesn't even sound like a word.

I don't like either.

I chose toffee, but I prefer caramel with nuts.

Carmel is a place in California.

I was being serious earlier. The second a really is silent.

The more famous Carmel that is a place is Mount Carmel, with Elijah, the Carmelites, Our Lady of Mount Carmel and all of that.

Toffee apples are very common in SA. From what I read here candy apples and caramel apples are the same as toffee apples. I make my own, and the kids love the caramel more. The toffee gets too hard for my liking, the caramel stays soft.

The hospital where I was born was actually called Mt. Carmel.

I've never heard of Toffee Apples, so I chose Candy Apples, though I prefer "Carmel" Apples. That's how I usually say it: CAR-mel.

That's how you should say it, Stockwell, because it's right.
