Swiss Steak
This slightly modified recipe came from one of my sister's 4-H cookbooks. It's one of Randy's favorite dishes. Best served with homemade mashed potatoes.
- 1½ lbs round steak
- ¼ C flour
- 1 tsp salt
- oil
- 1 C water
- 2 T chopped onion
- 1 tsp worchestershire sauce
- 1 15oz can crushed tomatoes
- ½ C chopped celery
- ½ C shredded carrots
Coat meat with flour mixed with salt. Brown in a little oil. Add leftover flour to pan drippings. Add water and stir to remove fond. Combine with worchestershire sauce, onion, tomoatoes, celery, and carots. Pour over meat. Bake covered at 350° about 2 to 2½ hours. Also works well in a Crock Pot, cooked on low for 6 to 8 hours.
